Little Hands
Project Statement
Young children are not often exposed to resources and environments
that allow them to learn about people with disabilities; in this case, the
deaf community. Children and adults alike are rarely exposed to
AUSLANG; the Australian sign language. Without educational exposure
to this language, we are left with no means of connecting with the
deaf community meaningfully.
The aim is to create a fun and interactive way for children aged 5-7 to
learn AUSLAN. Through a set of colourful illustrative flashcards, kids
will explore the language in a playful and creative manner,
encouraging teamwork and active engagement. The cards will help
them practice together, building confidence as they learn to
communicate and develop their valuable lingusitic skills.
Reflection
This was a particularly fun project, due to the heavy illustrative content; which allowed me to practice and refine my drawing skills while also making it enjoyable and interesting for children. The colours were intentionally selected and the research conducted prior worked well to direct my design and wording.
