Modern Alchemy
Project Statement
Alchemy is generally understood to be a medieval study concerned with turning metal into gold, curing diseases, and even finding a way to neverlasting life. This idea of a pursuit for gold and immortality has distorted our understanding of what alchemy was and is. These ‘alchemists’ were our early scientists; laying the groundwork for modern sciences.
Drawing inspiration and following the visual precedents of lab reports and scientific experimentation, this website brings forth alchemy in a modern light; using clean, minimal and clinical styling and captioning.
Reflection
As a second venture in website building and designing, I decided to play around more with unconventional text, image and caption formatting. Though more labour intensive, it led to the creation of alluring web-screenshots. I have learnt now, however, that it would have been best to record a scroll through of the website, as opposed to screenshots, as the static nature of these images take away from the web-users experience.
